About the OU Counseling Center
The Oakland University Counseling Center, located in the Graham Health Center has been serving the students and staff of the university for over 30 years. We provide a broad range of mental health services which include:
- Personal Counseling
- Psychological and Psychoeducational Testing
- Career Testing and Counseling
- Substance Abuse Evaluation, Treatment, and Prevention
- Consultation and Outreach
- Crisis Intervention
Counseling is provided by licensed psychologists and interns. Staff that are not fully licensed are supervised by licensed psychologists.
If you are a student, you can take advantage of the Counseling Center's services. Counseling services are based on a short-term model. If long-term counseling is indicated, the staff is happy to help with outside referrals. If you are an OU staff member, we will be happy to consult with you and facilitate a referral within the community.
In order to meet with a counselor, you can call or come in to the Counseling Center and schedule an appointment. Same day appointments may be available, subject to counselor availability.
We at the Oakland University Counseling Center understand and recognize the multitude of emotions (e.g., anxiety, fear, grief, anger, etc.) students, faculty, and staff may be experiencing during the ongoing pandemic and social unrest. In efforts to best support you, our staff are continuing to offer remote clinical services through phone and video conferencing. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact (248) 370-3465.
Also, please see below for some helpful links on how to manage anxiety and stress with regards to the Covid-19 outbreak:
The OUCC staff join all of those saddened and grieving over the history of violent and egregious acts against communities of color, most recently exemplified by the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and more. We recognize the biases and prejudices ingrained within our society by way of systemic racism and pledge support for all of those impacted by these traumatic events. We pledge to do our own internal work around race, particularly those of White and European descent, to shine a light on those underlying biases and prejudices that have been internalized.
The OUCC is excited to announce 6 new groups for the fall!
